A game of chance, aka Bingo or "Loteria," has its founding origins in 15th-century Italy. The game and its variations evolved and spread throughout the European nations over the centuries. In 1769, Spanish settlers imported an adaptation to New Spain (modern Mexico), primarily enjoyed by the social elites. In the late 1800's entrepreneur, Don Clemente Jacques purchased a labeling and printing facility in Mexico and began developing and selling his version to the public. By the late 19th century, the everyday folks were playing the "Loteria" rendition at local fairs and homes across Mexico. And the rest, as they say, is history.
